A 31-year old nurse traveled all the way from the United States to consult Dr Mahendra Narwaria in Ahmedabad to undergo gastric banding.

Her decision to get obesity surgery done to bring her weight under control was prompted by the fact that medical insurance companies in the US have started holding obesity as a clause for denying insurance. "I was denied insurance for obesity but I had to undergo the surgery to safeguard myself from obesity-related health hazards like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems. I want to play with my children ", said Chambers who also resolved to send her two friends to Ahmedabad for the obesity surgery.

Chambers was weighing 100 plus kg and after surgery lost over 40 kg. Chambers has now got her gastric band removed since she has gotten pregnant but plans to go for it again once she has delivered the child.

"My weight-loss made me feel so beautiful. I have got pregnant now but will go for gastric banding again to ensure that I never fall in the fat-trap again", Chambers says.

"My life has changed. I am fit as a fiddle now!"

The excess body weight led to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and even spine problem. I was advised to go for spine surgery, but Dr. Mahendra Narwaria, the obesity surgeon advised me for gastric bypass, which I underwent in 2005.

The surgery has completely changed my life after losing 80 kg. in a year. My back pain and hypertension does not prevail anymore. Today, I am as fit as a fiddle, and I live my life the way I like."
